High school students are currently working on their reading of the book “The Kite Runner”, a book of the American-Afghan author Khaled Hosseini.

A group of students under the supervision of their Polish teacher, Mrs. Karolina, recently had the opportunity to get to know the realities of the novel in an unusual way. They visited Mrs. Farida Anwari, a refugee from Afghanistan living in Wrocław, who invited them to taste traditional Afghan dishes. The participants of the feast could try dishes with exotic – for the Polish ear – sounding names, such as bolani, beef kabuli palaw, and for dessert – sheer berenj.

Thus, getting to know the cultural context of readings can sometimes involve many senses :-)

We would like to thank Mrs. Anwari for this extraordinary meeting, hospitality and introducing us to the flavors of her distant country!
