As part of the diploma study programme there exist opportunities to take part in field trips abroad. In December 2016 a group of DP students went to London to explore this magnificent city in relation to two key aspects of their literary studies – the works of William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens. The group visited The Globe Theatre where they took part in professional workshops led by a theatre director related to their study of Shakespeare’s King Lear. In the evening the group had the pleasure of attending a Royal Shakespeare Company production of King Lear, starring Sir Anthony Sher, at The Barbican Theatre. The group also had a chance to visit Charles Dickens’s London home at 48, Doughty Street which nowadays is a museum dedicated to his life and works. The students walked all over the city on a walking tour with a guide and experienced a tour of St. Paul’s Cathedral. The group stayed in Kensington where they could visit Hyde Park, the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
